“The heart of healing lies in our ability to listen, to perceive, more than in our application of technique.”
The Early Journey
From the early beginnings as a voluntary clinical subject at her Fathers Hypnotherapy School, seeds of curiosity were planted that saw Julie begin a Clinical Diploma of Hypnotherapy, completed whilst finishing high school. This was the exposure that awakened a profound awareness of the power of the mind and specific tools useful to support relaxation and healing.
This research became a study of Psychology at University, however, this failed to hit the truth of the deep rooted, human and societal issues Julie was observing and experiencing in her life. Following a year of constant and serious illness, Julie’s innate belief in the body’s intelligence lead her deeper into natural therapies. She connected with a Pharmacist–Herbalist whom became a treasured mentor and inspired Julie’s passion and studies of Herbal Medicine. Julie has nearly 20 years studying Natural Medicine, Bowen Therapy and Holistic Health. Her experience also draws from life expanding travel, some of which involved delving into Eastern cultural philosophies and practices.
Self-awareness through mindfulness
During my year of exploration into my own heath and wellbeing, I recognised a pattern that showed up as physical and emotional pain and suffering but always had an underlying thought, belief, anxiety or tension which became more obvious as I learnt how to become aware of the underlying factor/driver. Then, as I became aware, I learnt to accept every part of the discomfort so that I could learn about it.
Through my own passage on life’s path, I have grown personally by observing and addressing those experiences which showed me, that what I identify as ‘me’, (i.e. my thoughts, beliefs, fears, patterns, tendencies) were those that created pain or dissatisfaction. I learnt to recognise that my thoughts are not me. When dissatisfied with a situation, I was motivated to look at it from a new perspective of underlying beliefs or programmed patterns – looking at reactions and thoughts to uncover the root of the discontent.
My life is for the most part a blend of happy, content and peaceful with life’s challenge approached as gifts for new understanding. Though we never stop learning, these challenges now bring new growth that I can appreciate even while I am inside ‘the situation’ be it negative or positive. This growth has come through personal inquiry, mindfulness, study in the natural health fields, investigation into other belief systems, support of talented and inspiring practitioners and mentors and the consistent practice of choosing what I wanted – most of all how I wanted to feel about myself and life. I feel the depth of joy available in this life and I choose to help others to foster greater awareness for their optimal balance.
“As I grew personally and within my clinical practice, I realised that there is a gift offered in full focus with the client and within this nurturing space of private consultation. In this space I experience absolute and unconditional love for the person I am sitting with. I feel that this is the strongest foundation to explore healing for the individual. ”
Why I am so passionate about collective wellness
I believe we all need support on our journey of healing and we don’t have to be alone when in pain/discomfort. We all deserve to feel good in life and peaceful within ourselves. And so I feel compelled to share the gifts of healing I have received with others. I am fulfilled by my work and I love guiding those who are seeking the tools to change, or rediscover themselves. I have sat in uncertainty, feeling lost as we each may feel during periods in our lives and understand how it feels when to have insufficient tools for healing and growth. Change is challenging but it can also be very satisfying if we allow this process to unfold seeing new growth and possibility.
